God and Church Program

God and Church Award
For Grades 6 - 8

 


Program: Earn the God and Church award. The God and Church program will lead young people on a journey. It will be a faith journey with three parts: meeting Jesus, worshiping God, and witnessing and ministering for Christ. Participants will create either a video or a photo album to share what they have learned on their faith journeys. Young people will have the opportunity to work with their pastor or other Christian adult as they study the church's structures and objectives and participate in service projects that will give them a better understanding of the mission of the church.

Dates: Every Wednesday for nine weeks….except Feb.13th Ash Wednesday and April                       3rd Poquoson’s Spring Break. We will meet from 6:30 to 7:45

Cost :Each student and mentor will be required to furnish their own workbook

Colonial Trail Klondike Derby
Colonial Trails District will be holding Klondike Derby on January 25, 26, 27 2013 at Johnsons Garden Center 3201 Holland Road (Rt. 58) in Suffolk. Troop 16 is the host. An Order of the Arrow Call Out will be held.

2013 Jamboree Update

 

Experience the Summit!! As a 3rd Assistant Scoutmaster!!
 
Jamboree Troop D312, headquartered in Newport News, is in full swing with plans to enjoy the inaugural Jamboree at The Summit Bechtel Reserve. 
 
Jamboree Scoutmaster Bill Newton is fulfilling his leadership opportunitees for Troop D312. Any 18-21 year old registered scouter throughout the Colonial Virginia Council can apply for this position.  The duties include, direct supervision to the troop scribe, troop first aid, assistant to Jamboree Scoutmasters and overall laison between the youth members and Jamboree adult leadership.  The fee for serving in this leadership capacity is $875.00.  You will be able to take in all the sights, sounds and actions of Jamboree 2013 "Go Big, Get Wild".  Please contact Scoutmaster Bill Newton at 757-599-3356 or email tatonka_bill@cox.net if you or you know of a scout that may be interested in this opportunity.  You may also visit http://summit.scouting.org/en/Jamboree2013/Pages/Scoutmaster-Qualifications.aspx for general Third Assistant requirements along with www.bsajamboree.org to check out all the fun, high adventure activites that will be conducted at the Jamboree.

Parater Trek Information June 22-29, 2013

The Office for Evangelization of Youth and Young Adults in the Catholic Diocese of Richmond is hosting a 40 mile backpacking called the Boy Scout Parater Trek.  

Francis J. Parater (October 10, 1897, – February 7, 1920) was an Eagle Scout, and a Catholic seminarian from the Diocese of Richmond who died of rheumatic fever at the age of 23 and was nominated for canonization (the process by which someone is declared a Saint) in 2001.

Participants will backpack approximately 40 miles in the Blue Ridge Mountains, with options for high adventure activities along the way, such as rock climbing and black powder rifle shooting. The Parater Trek will be based on the format of the National Catholic Committee on Scouting Saint George Trek.   The Parater Trek is scheduled for June 22-29, 2013.

Who – Boy Scouts age 14-17

When - June 22-29, 2013. 

Why - Test yourself in body and soul; see what it takes to walk with God.

Cost - $300

Applications – due January 14, 2013.- Limited space available.

Youth Protection Training
          All Volunteers must have training to register and recharter. Training is required every two years.
